Motorists travelling through Newcastle Great Park are being urged to take extra care after raised ironwork was spotted on Great Park Way, close to the former Sage headquarters, on Tuesday morning (27 October 2026).
Roadworks are currently affecting the stretch of Great Park Way running past the prominent former Sage building, with traffic cones, temporary warning signs and sections of fencing visible along the route.
A photograph taken on Tuesday morning shows the roadworks area, including a temporary ramp warning sign and traffic cones positioned alongside the carriageway.
However, particular concern has been raised about ironwork protruding above the surrounding road surface, potentially catching out drivers who are unfamiliar with the temporary conditions.
Drivers advised to slow down and take care
Raised ironwork, including manhole covers and utility access points, can create an uneven road surface during construction or resurfacing work.
While these features can be part of road improvement projects, they may present an unexpected bump for motorists, particularly when visibility is reduced or the road is wet.
The road surface appeared wet on Tuesday morning, adding another reason for drivers to approach the area cautiously.
Motorists using Great Park Way are advised to reduce their speed, remain alert to changes in the road surface and follow any temporary warning signs or instructions.
Drivers should also be mindful of cyclists and other road users who may be particularly affected by uneven surfaces.
Roadworks near the former Sage headquarters
Great Park Way forms part of the main route through Newcastle Great Park, connecting different neighbourhoods and providing access towards the wider road network.
The road passes directly in front of the former Sage headquarters, making it a familiar route for residents commuting to work, travelling to school or heading out of Great Park.
The Great Park Consortium has previously announced infrastructure improvements in this area, including work on walking and cycling routes near the former Sage building.
However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the raised ironwork observed on Tuesday is connected to those earlier improvements or to a separate programme of roadworks.
The expected completion date for the current works has also not been independently confirmed.
Residents urged to remain cautious
With Great Park continuing to develop and road improvements taking place across different parts of the estate, motorists are encouraged to remain aware of changing road conditions.
Even where a road remains open to traffic, temporary changes to its surface can require additional care.
Great Park Gazette is highlighting the raised ironwork to ensure residents are aware of the conditions before travelling through the area.
Anyone using Great Park Way near the former Sage building over the coming days should approach the roadworks cautiously and be prepared for uneven sections of carriageway.
