Residents have spotted a new Wash.ME self-service launderette outside Morrisons in Great Park, with large-capacity washing machines and tumble dryers appearing in the supermarket car park.
A new outdoor launderette looks set to become the latest addition to Newcastle Great Park, after a self-service washing and drying facility was photographed outside Morrisons.
The bright blue and white Wash.ME launderette has been installed beside the Morrisons supermarket on Brunton Drive, providing what could become a convenient new service for residents across Great Park and surrounding neighbourhoods.
A photograph taken on Thursday 29 October 2026 shows the machines positioned outside the supermarket, with temporary barriers and red-and-white safety tape still surrounding the installation.

Although the equipment is in place, an official opening date has not yet been confirmed, and the cordoned-off area suggests the facility may not yet be available for public use.
Once operational, it could prove particularly useful for residents looking to wash bulky household items or complete large laundry loads without needing to visit a traditional launderette.
What is the new Wash.ME launderette?
Wash.ME, previously known as Revolution Laundry, operates self-service outdoor washing and drying facilities throughout the UK.
The units are commonly found in supermarket car parks, petrol stations and retail locations, allowing customers to wash their clothes while going about their day.
Unlike a conventional launderette, there is no need to enter a separate shop or wait for an attendant.
Customers simply load their washing into one of the machines, select their preferred programme and pay at the built-in terminal.
The Great Park installation features three clearly marked machines:
9kg washing machine – suitable for regular household laundry.
20kg washing machine – designed for larger loads and bulky items.
20kg tumble dryer – for drying substantial amounts of washing.
The large-capacity equipment could be especially convenient for households with bedding, blankets, duvets and other items that may be difficult to wash in a standard domestic washing machine.
Wash your laundry while doing the weekly shop
One of the biggest advantages of the new facility will be its location.
The installation sits outside Morrisons, right in the heart of Newcastle Great Park's town centre.
This could allow residents to put their washing on while visiting the supermarket, collecting parcels or using other nearby shops and services.
According to Wash.ME, a typical wash cycle takes approximately 30 minutes, although the exact duration depends on the programme selected.
The company also offers an optional text-message alert service at participating machines, notifying customers when their wash is nearing completion.
This means residents may be able to leave their laundry safely running while completing their shopping, returning when the cycle is finished.
Ideal for duvets, bedding and larger items
The installation could be particularly welcome for families who struggle to wash bulky household items at home.
Large duvets, blankets, sleeping bags and curtains can sometimes be too heavy or bulky for domestic washing machines.
Wash.ME's 20kg machines are designed to accommodate larger loads, although customers should always follow the care instructions on individual items.
The company says its washing machines also automatically provide detergent, meaning customers generally do not need to bring their own.
The detergent is described as environmentally certified and perfume-free.
Fabric softener and some additional washing options may be available at extra cost.
For Great Park households without a tumble dryer, the large-capacity drying machine could also provide a useful alternative during the colder and wetter months.
How much will it cost?
Wash.ME's published UK guidance indicates that washing prices generally range from approximately £5.50 for an 8–9kg load to £11 for an 18–20kg load, including detergent.
However, these are the company's general guide prices.
The exact prices for the Great Park machines have not yet been confirmed.
Drying costs will also depend on the tariff and duration selected at the machine.
Residents should check the prices displayed on the equipment once the new facility officially opens.
Will it be open 24 hours a day?
Wash.ME operates many of its outdoor launderettes 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
However, the company makes clear that round-the-clock access does not apply to every location.
It is therefore not yet known whether the Great Park facility will operate 24/7 or follow restricted hours.
The machines are positioned outdoors, meaning customers will not need to enter the Morrisons supermarket to access them once the area opens, subject to any site-specific restrictions.
An official opening announcement and operating hours are still awaited.
Part of a wider Morrisons partnership
The appearance of the new equipment follows an existing partnership between Morrisons and ME Group, the company behind Wash.ME.
In February 2025, ME Group announced an extension to its agreement with the supermarket chain.
Under the five-year agreement, the company planned to install at least 200 additional outdoor laundry units at Morrisons stores across the UK.
The Great Park installation appears consistent with that wider expansion, although the companies have not yet confirmed the specific arrangements for this location.
Another service for Great Park residents
Since Morrisons opened in Newcastle Great Park in March 2023, the supermarket has become a focal point of the growing town centre.
The store already provides a range of facilities, including grocery shopping, parcel collection services and electric vehicle charging.
The addition of an outdoor launderette would offer another practical service for residents, particularly those who need occasional access to larger washing machines.
Its location could also benefit people living in nearby areas such as Brunton Park, Melton Park, Kingston Park and Wideopen.
With the machines already installed, residents will no doubt be interested to see when the safety barriers are removed and the facility opens for business.
